What memory configurations are supported?
The Dell PowerEdge M820 supports up to 1.5TB of DDR3 memory using 48 x 32GB LRDIMM modules, or up to 1TB of DDR3 memory using 32 x 32GB RDIMM modules, or up to 768GB of DDR3 memory using 48 x 16GB RDIMM modules, or up to 256GB of DDR3 memory using 32 x 8GB UDIMM modules.

  • The Maximum Memory can vary depending on the ECC type in use.
  • Do not mix RDIMMs, LDIMMs or UDIMMs.
  • You should match the existing memory installed, unless you are completely replacing all modules.
  • When multiple processors are installed, balance the DIMMS evenly across all processors.
  • If only 1 processor is installed in a 2 processor system, only half of the DIMM slots are available to use.
