Why Upgrade?
DDR4 Memory
Memory manufacturers started producing DDR4 modules in 2014 and continued to develop the technology with bigger memory sizes and higher speeds until the release of DDR5 in 2021. Most new models will now use DDR5, however you can still upgrade your DDR4 model with more memory to improve performance and extend it's life, saving money compared to buying a new computer.
Below are some of the main improvements DDR4 made over DDR3.
- Up to 50% increase in performance
- Double memory bandwidth compared to DDR3 introductory rates
- Consumes up to 40% less power extending battery life and reducing running costs
- Reduced power means reduced heat so your laptop runs cooler
- Faster burst speeds for increased data throughput
Can I upgrade to DDR4?
To use DDR4 memory you will need a computer or motherboard that was manufactured from mid 2014, that supports DDR4. Please click the button below to find your computer model and upgrade options.
Should I upgrade my Computer or Motherboard to support DDR4?
For the average home user upgrading your current system is more cost effective than buying a new system purely for DDR4. However if your current system is at it's maximum capacity and you want better performance and speed then upgrading to a DDR4 or DDR5 system is the best option.
Remember that it's often cheaper overall to buy your new system with the lowest memory option, and to upgrade to the capacity you want with Mr Memory.
