| Memory Type: | 184 Pin DDR2700 333MHz ECC REG
Memory Types ExplainedThe 2 main types of memory module are SODIMM and DIMM. SODIMMs (Small outline dual inline memory module) An SODIMM is generally used in Laptops / Notebooks and All-in-one computers. SODIMMs are smaller in length than regular DIMMs. 204-pin DDR3 SODIMMs are available in: PC3-16000 / PC3-14400 / PC3-12800 / PC3-10600 & PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 200-pin DDR & DDR2 SODIMMs are available in: PC2-8500 / PC2-6400 / PC2-5300 / PC2-4200 & PC2-3200 DDR2 SDRAM and PC3200 / PC2700 & PC2100 DDR SDRAM 144-pin SDRAM SODIMMs are available in: PC133 & PC100 SDRAM DIMMs (Dual inline memory module) DIMMs are generally used in Desktops, Towers and Server computers. DIMMs are longer than SODIMMs. 240-pin DDR2 & DDR3 DIMMs are available in: PC3-16000 / PC3-14400 / PC3-12800 / PC3-10600 & PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM and PC2-8500 / PC2-6400 / PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 184-pin DDR DIMMs are available in: PC3200 / PC2700 & PC2100 DDR SDRAM 168-pin SDRAM DIMMs are available in: PC133 & PC100 SDRAM Server Memory (ECC Unbuffered, ECC Registered, ECC Fully Buffered) ECC Unbuffered and ECC Registered modules are available in all speeds of DDR3 / DDR2 / DDR & SDRAM DIMM memory. ECC Fully buffered DIMMs (FBDIMMs) are available in DDR2 DIMM memory. These memory types are used predominantly for server and workstation motherboards. Apple Mac Pro Memory We supply DDR2 ECC Fully Buffered DIMMs (FBDIMMs) which are designed specifically for Apple computers. These have a heat spreader larger in size to the standard Fully Buffered DIMMs (FBDIMMs) and are only to be used in Apple computers. Can I accidentally install the wrong memory type? The simple answer is "No". Within the row of gold pins you will see either 1 or 2 slots depending on the memory type. This slot is used to ensure the memory module correctly fits into place on the motherboard, and you will find the location of the slot(s) may change depending on the type of memory. DDR3, DDR2, DDR & SDRAM memory all look very similar in size and design, but they can only be installed into the corresponding slot (e.g. a DDR3 module will only fit a DDR3 slot). If in doubt please check your system motherboard to ensure it accepts modules with the relevant pin size / slot type. |
